Organizing for Mathematics Instruction (1977 NCTM Yearbook)

Organizing for Mathematics Instruction was published in 1977 by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics as their 39th Yearbook. In the preface, yearbook editor F. Joe Crosswhite (Ohio State University) says the call for proposals asked mathematics educators to respond to the question, "What would you expect to see in an NCTM yearbook entitled Alternatives in Organizing for Mathematics Instruction?" The call attracted nearly 50 proposals, and the editors narrowed the scope by excluding proposals focused solely on the reorganization of mathematical content, and instead gave preference to those proposals focused on the organization of teaching, as that would be of more direct benefit to NCTM's membership. Crosswhite was assisted by NCTM's general yearbook editor, Robert E. Reys (University of Missouri), and special acknowledgements were made to Jon L. Higgins and Marilyn N. Suydam for their contributions.
