Rheta Rubenstein

Rheta Rubenstein is professor emerita of mathematics education at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Academic Background

Rubenstein received a bachelor's degree with honors in mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1968. While teaching in Detroit Public Schools, she earned a master's in secondary education from Wayne State University in 1973 and a Ph.D. in mathematics education from Wayne State in 1982.

Professional Career

Rubenstein taught in junior high schools and high schools in Detroit Public Schools from 1969 to 1989. In 1989, she joined the faculty at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, where she taught content and methods courses to preservice teachers. In 1996, she moved on to Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan for five years before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2001, where she stayed until retiring in 2016.

Rubenstein served as the general yearbook editor for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for the 2008, 2009, 2010 NCTM yearbooks.
