Elizabeth Glenadine Gibb (June 8, 1919 - June 29, 1984) was a mathematics educator, professor, journal editor, and past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Early Life and Academic Preparation

Glenadine Gibb was born June 8, 1919, in Biggsville, Illinois to Clarence Paul & Ida May (Glenn) Gibb. She received a bachelor of education Western Illinois University in 1941 and became a high school teacher. Gibb earned an M.A. from the George Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt University) in 1944 and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1953. Her dissertation was titled, Children's Thinking in the Process of Subtraction and John Roberts Mayor served as her advisor.

Professional Career

After earning her bachelor's degree, Gibb taught high school mathematics and science in Mendon, Illinois for four years from 1941 to 1945. She then moved to teach secondary mathematics in Geneseo, Illinois for the 1945-1946 school year. In 1946, she was appointed as an instructor at Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa), where she would move into the tenure track and stay until 1965.

Gibb moved to the University of Texas at Austin in 1965 and was tasked with building an interdisciplinary graduate program in mathematics education.
